Trainings on the topic Protection and self-protection in cases of catastrophes intended for the staff who works in kindergartens and primary schools

The Macedonian Red Cross, within the framework of the Program for preparation and action in cases of catastrophes, with the financial support of UNICEF, during the third phase of the project a total of 11 trainings were realized in 11 educational institutions (August/September) on the topic Protection and self-protection in cases of catastrophes intended for the staff who works in kindergartens and primary schools.

A total of 190 persons attended the trainings. The trainings were realized in the following educational institutions: PPS “R.J.Korcagin” – the Pinokio object, Municipality of Center, PPS “Snow white” – the Dwarf object, Municipality of Cair, PPS “Veseli Cvetovi” – the Sinolicka object, Municipality of Kisela Voda, PPS “25th of May” – the Sonce object, Municipality of Gazi Baba, PPS “Rosica” – the Detelinka object, Municipality of Gjorce Petrov, PS “Krste Misirkov” – Municipality of Kumanovo, PS “Bajram Shabani” – Municipality of Kumanovo, PPS “Angel Shajce” – the Pcelka object, Municipality of Kumanovo, PS “Krste Misirkov” – Municipality of Gevgelija, PS “Vlado Kantardziev” – Municipality of Gevgelija, PPS “Detska Radost” – the Cvetovi object, Municipality of Gevgelija.

The main characteristics of catastrophes (both natural and those caused by people) were explained during the trainings, as well as what actions should be taken before, during and after the catastrophes. Later on, within the framework of the sessions, the participants had the opportunity to demonstrate the acquired knowledge, through practical exercises in which solutions for certain situations can be found. Additionally, the participants were provided with manuals for disaster risk reduction in kindergartens and primary schools, which contain information that the teachers can later on transfer to their students. During the workshops, evacuation plans for protection and rescue made specifically for those institutions were also elaborated.
