Specialized training for mental health and psycho-social support in emergency situations

From June 9 to 11, 2025, at the “Solferino” Training Center in Struga, the Red Cross of North Macedonia held specialized training for mental health and psycho-social support in emergency situations, with a special focus on crisis intervention and complex emergency cases.

The training was part of the ongoing Disaster Relief Emergency Fund operation, supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The goal was to strengthen the capacities of psychologists actively working in the field—particularly in areas affected by recent emergencies, such as the Kočani region. The program was tailored to address the specific challenges arising from complex crisis situations and to encourage better planning and interventions in the future.

The facilitators of the training were psychologists from the Mental Health Center, experts from the Chamber of Psychologists of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as an international expert from the Croatian Red Cross, whose experience and knowledge significantly contributed to the quality of the training.

The experience and expertise of the involved psychologists in the field of mental health, as well as their active participation, greatly contributed to the effectiveness of the training and further strengthened the joint efforts to ensure coordinated and timely psycho-social support.
