March 17 – Foundation Day of the Red Cross of RNM and Blood Donation Day in the Republic of North Macedonia

On March 17, we mark the day of the foundation of the Red Cross of RNM — an organization that for decades has been a symbol of humanity, solidarity, and care for people. In a time filled with challenges and uncertainty, the Red Cross reminds us of a simple but essential truth: the true strength of a society is measured by its willingness to stand beside those who need help the most.

Through its wide network of volunteers and branches, the Red Cross continuously contributes to the development of humanitarian activities, health education, social support, and timely response in crisis situations. However, its mission is not only organizational or institutional. It is an ethical call—a call for solidarity, responsibility, and respect for the dignity of every human being.

At the same time, March 17 is also marked as Blood Donation Day in the Republic of North Macedonia—a day dedicated to the people who save lives through a single selfless act. Blood donation is one of the noblest forms of human solidarity. It is a moment when strangers are connected through the most valuable thing we have—life.

Donating blood is not only a medical necessity. It is a profound moral message that society is built on mutual care, trust, and the willingness to help where hope is needed the most.

In the past period, significant results have been achieved in the field of blood donation: 811 blood donation campaigns were carried out, 61,778 units of blood were collected, 112.3% of the planned target was achieved, and 20 Red Cross branches exceeded their annual plan.

Therefore, today we do not celebrate only results and numbers—we celebrate humanity, solidarity, and life itself.

Every blood donor, every volunteer, every donor and supporter is a star in this network of kindness—a star that lights the path toward a better, more humane, and more solidaristic society.
