International Day of Older Persons

The Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia is once again joining the commemoration of October 1st – the International Day of Older Persons, which was designated by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 1990. This international day aims to raise public awareness about the aging population and to encourage societies to develop systems that support older people in living fulfilling and active lives. This year, the theme is: “Advocating for Healthy and Inclusive Aging.”

These global goals are part of our country’s policies, which are also aligned with the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. The Red Cross of RNM actively participates and contributes to the overall efforts undertaken by the relevant institutions to ensure the rights, necessary care, and protection of older people in the country.

To mark October 1st, the City Red Cross of Skopje and the Red Cross branches will organize various activities related to the global goals. These include: informational workshops on the rights of older persons, educational sessions on topics of their interest, creative workshops and social gatherings with older people as well as other activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of aging.
