Marking the Week for Fight Against Tuberculosis (14–21 September)
From 14 to 21 September 2026, the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia will mark the Week for Fight Against Tuberculosis. Through this initiative, we aim to raise public awareness about the importance of overall health, the social and economic impact of tuberculosis (TB), and encourage the acceleration of efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
Tuberculosis primarily affects adults in their most productive years. However, people of all age groups are at risk. More than 95% of cases and deaths occur in developing countries. In 2024, approximately 10.7 million people worldwide developed tuberculosis, while around 1.23 million people died as a result of the disease. In North Macedonia, tuberculosis remains a significant public health challenge, which is why continued prevention, timely recognition of symptoms, early diagnosis, and appropriate treatment are of particular importance.
This year’s motto for the Week for Fight Against Tuberculosis of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia is: “Yes! We Can End TB.” During the week, the Red Cross branches and the City Red Cross of Skopje will share posts on social media, organize workshops, and carry out various other promotional activities aimed at raising public awareness about the prevention and timely diagnosis of tuberculosis.
