Training for psychologists on PTSD: assessment, stabilization, and referral in an institutional context

At the Regional Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, a one-day training titled “PTSD: Assessment, Stabilization, and Referral in an Institutional Context” was held on 06.03.2026. The training was intended for psychologists with the aim of improving their knowledge and skills in recognizing and working with post-traumatic reactions and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

During the training, participants had the opportunity to learn about the neurobiological foundations of trauma and gained practical experience in structuring an initial trauma-informed conversation, screening, risk and functioning assessment, as well as integrating the collected data into a clinical formulation. Through practical demonstrations and work in pairs, participants acquired concrete skills that they can immediately apply in their professional practice.

After successfully completing the training, 9 participants received certificates and left with a clear framework for assessment, stabilization, and referral, along with practical tools for professional use in an institutional context. This training strengthened their professional readiness and enabled them to provide competent and confident support to individuals facing the consequences of traumatic experiences.
