October 18 – European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings

The Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, as a member of the Secretariat of the National Commission for Combating Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration through the implementation of preventive activities, contributes to the fight against this global problem that is also reflected in our country. In this direction, the Red Cross of RNM is participating in the marking of October 18 – the European Day against Human Trafficking by organizing preventive activities for peer education of the young population through the City Red Cross of Skopje and the Red Cross branches. On the occasion of the day, 22 prevention workshops will be organized with young people from primary and secondary schools, with volunteers from Red Cross Youth Clubs, as well as one workshop with people evacuated from Afghanistan sheltered in hotel New Star.

The preventive lessons aim to raise the awareness of young people, to recognize the ways through which they can be involved in human trafficking and their self-protection. Human trafficking is a serious social problem and represents the most severe form of violation of basic human rights – the right to life, the right to free movement, the right to freedom of choice and other rights and freedoms. Human trafficking is a problem that requires a joint approach to its suppression and joint efforts by the appropriate relevant institutions.
