Promotional event for the project “Safe Schools and Kindergartens” and national recommendations for advocacy for disaster risk reduction, first aid and psychosocial support in case of disasters”

On January 29, 2021, through the ZOOM platform, a final event was held for the project “Safe Schools and Kindergartens” supported by the ERASMUS + program, which presented the project results and the National Recommendations for disaster risk reduction, first aid and psychosocial disaster support in educational institutions.

The Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia is continuously working on strengthening the capacities of educational institutions and reducing the risks of disasters. To this end, within the regional project “Safe Schools and Kindergartens” supported by the ERASMUS + program, European and National recommendations for advocacy for disaster risk reduction, first aid and psychosocial support in case of disasters in educational institutions were prepared.

The workshop was attended by 110 participants, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Bureau for Development of Education, Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Ministry of Interior, Military Academy, National Agency for European Educational Programs and Mobility, as well as representatives of educational institutions (kindergartens and primary schools) from all over the country. Through the exchange of opinions and experiences, the participants contributed to the elaboration and finalization of the recommendations as well as proposals for further systemic and institutional solution to the disaster risk reduction.

The institutions, teachers and experts expressed their gratitude for the preparation of the material in the project with special emphasis on the platform for disaster risk reduction, first aid and psychosocial support as well as the catalog of resources that will be of exceptional importance and support for the curricula and preparation and realization of activities in cooperation with the Red Cross branches and the City Red Cross of Skopje.

The event was organized by the Disaster Response Operations Center of the Red Cross of RNM for purpose of encouraging and strengthening cooperation with all partners, institutions and stakeholders.
