24th General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
The 24th General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) was held in Geneva, Switzerland in the period of October 22-25, 2024. During the assembly, representatives from 191 national societies discussed urgent global challenges such as disasters, climate change, and armed conflicts. Through plenary sessions and discussions, participants addressed priorities and challenges faced by the Movement, as well as important messages to be conveyed to the state parties of the Geneva Conventions at the upcoming International Conference.
New members were elected to the Youth Commission, the Compliance and Mediation Commission, and the Audit and Risk Commission. A new health policy was adopted, along with amendments to the Constitution of the IFRC. The “Henry Davidson” awards for outstanding contributions were presented to five nominated individuals. The implementation of Strategy 2030 was reviewed for its first five years, and the assembly approved the IFRC budget IFRC for 2025 and 2026.
The Red Cross of North Macedonia was represented by a three-member delegation comprised of Dr. Liljana Ristevska – Vice President, PhD. Sait Saiti – Secretary General, and Vladimir Vukelić – Desk Officer for International Cooperation and Development. During the Assembly, representatives of the Red Cross of North Macedonia held bilateral meetings to enhance cooperation with IFRC President Ms. Kate Forbes, as well as representatives from Swiss Red Cross and German Red Cross. They also actively participated in side workshops focused on strengthening the safety, security, and well-being of Red Cross volunteers during emergencies and conflicts, the role of National Societies as leaders in recovery processes after disasters and emergencies, and ethics in the governance and management of Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations.
