MARKING DECEMBER 5TH – INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY
On December 5th, International Volunteer Day is celebrated worldwide. On this day, we acknowledge the contribution, significance, and role of volunteers around the world in strengthening our communities. At the same time, we promote volunteering and encourage relevant institutions to support the efforts of volunteer organizations. The volunteer service is one of the seven fundamental principles of the Movement and represents the essence of the work of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Every year, more than 16 million volunteers worldwide actively participate in the activities of the national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies. Two out of every 1,000 people globally volunteer with the Red Cross. For each employee of the Red Cross, there are 20 volunteers who contribute to making the world a safer and better place to live for many people facing various social, health, and other challenges. On average, between 4,000 and 5,000 volunteers are actively involved in the programs of the Red Cross of North Macedonia on an annual basis.
This year, the Red Cross of North Macedonia is marking the Day under the motto “Protecting Humanity,” recognizing the contribution of our volunteers, who come from all generations, from the youngest to the oldest, and who, in the spirit of humanity, provide support for the implementation of our activities aimed at a variety of beneficiaries. The central event was organized at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Skopje, in presence of numerous volunteers from the Red Cross branches and the City Red Cross of Skopje. During the event, the Red Cross of North Macedonia extended public gratitude to all volunteers in the country for their contribution to the development of the organization and for providing support in the implementation of the national society’s activities.
Happy December 5th, International Volunteer Day!
