Marking the Week of the fight against HIV/AIDS (December 01-07, 2023)
In accordance with the calendar of traditional activities, in the period from December 1-7, 2023 the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia is marking the Week of the fight against HIV/AIDS, under the motto “Global solidarity, shared responsibility”.
HIV is a virus that causes human immunodeficiency. The presence of the HIV virus in the human body leads to the destruction of the defense ability (immunity), due to which the body becomes unable to defend itself against various diseases and infections. Of all infected people worldwide (37.9 million people), 1.7 million are children under the age of 15, 32 million people have died from causes related to HIV/AIDS and more than 50% of people living with HIV have received anti-retroviral therapy (ART).
During the Week, the Red Cross branches are organizing activities to contribute to raising public awareness among the young population by conducting educational peer workshops in secondary schools, making short educational videos with messages on prevention of HIV infection, sharing information and posters on social media and other activities.
