Participation in the Academy for volunteers in Varna, Republic of Bulgaria

During the period of 02-09.09.2018, the 13th Academy for volunteers was held in Varna, Republic of Bulgaria, organized by the youth of the Bulgarian Red Cross.

During the Academy which was supported by the Regional office of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent for Europe for the 4th time in a row, the youth of the Bulgarian Red Cross have invited an international group of young volunteers from different National societies of Europe and Central Asia.

This year 12 young people from Croatia, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Austria, Switzerland, Romania, Ukraine, Italy, Macedonia and Bulgaria participated in the Academy for volunteers. Representatives of the Macedonian Red Cross at the Academy were Alenka Shopova and Biljana Josifovska.  

During the Academy which this year had the topic “Leadership and communication”, and was led by two international trainers, Marija Hristova – member of the European youth committee for coordination and Giuseppe Cassela – volunteering coordinator for the Regional office of the IFRC in Europe, the youth had the opportunity to learn from one another, to exchanges positive practices and experiences on the work with the youth, to exchange ideas for improving and promoting volunteerism, and to build international cooperation.   

The representatives of all Red Cross National Societies also had the opportunity to represent their countries and to present the most characteristic activities and the promotional materials of their National Societies.

The participation on the Academy for volunteers has not only contributed a lot on the exchange of experiences and ideas related to the youth of the Red Cross, but also on learning and gaining more information on this type workshop for young volunteers which could be also implemented in our National Society.
