A meeting of the Committee for Transparency

On 05.05.2023 in the premises of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, a meeting of the Committee for Transparency was held for the raised donations from the campaign of the Red Cross of RNM to help the population affected by the disastrous earthquake in the Republic of Türkiye and the Syrian Arab Republic. On the occasion of the strong disastrous earthquake that hit Türkiye and Syria on February 6, 2023, causing great material damage, injuries and unfortunately human losses, the Red Cross of RNM immediately launched an appeal to raise financial donations from citizens and legal entities, but also material goods primarily needed to assist the affected population. On March 20, 2023, the Red Cross of RSM organized an event in order to round up the humanitarian action.

At the meeting, the Secretary General of the Red Cross of RNM, PhD. Sait Saiti, informed the present about the undertaken activities and the total funds raised. A total of 71 million denars were raised, of which about 9 million denars are in donations in kind and the rest of the assistance is in financial resources.

The members of the board reviewed the documentation related to deposited funds on the Solidarity Fund of the Red Cross of RNM – donations from legal entities and citizens (financial documents were made available for inspection (review of bank statements for deposited funds). The Committee also discussed the division of the amounts from the donations that do not have a specific allocation for which country they were deposited for, the modalities how the funds would be transferred, that is, the ratio according to the number casualties will be taken into account as a ratio for the calculation of the transfer of funds. Funds for the population in Türkiye will be transferred to the account of the Turkish Red Crescent, while funds for the population or the Syrian Arab Republic will be transferred to the Appeal account of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for Syria.
