Assistance for the affected population by the disastrous floods in Libya

The disastrous floods in eastern Libya caused by torrential rains from the Hurricane Daniel, which occurred on September 10, 2023, devastated several cities on the Mediterranean coast. Significant damage was done to the infrastructure, including the road network, and the telecommunications network was also disrupted. The situation is most difficult in the city of Derna, where the death toll is over 5,000 people. The flood caused by the strong storm broke the dams, causing a torrent of water and devastated over one quarter of the city of Derna, carrying away the buildings along with their inhabitants, the streets are covered with mud and rubble. It is estimated that around 10,000 people are missing.

The Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia expresses deepest condolences for the human loss and the material damages. Expressing solidarity with the suffering population in Libya, the Red Cross is involved in providing the necessary assistance.
