In this year, when we mark the 55th anniversary since the catastrophic earthquake that hit Skopje, we say our goodbyes to our great friend and citizen of honor, Thorvald Stoltenberg. His merits for reconstructing Skopje after the catastrophic earthquake in 1963 are huge. The citizens of Skopje remember him for the construction of the children’s hospital in Kozle, which was a donation of the Kingdom of Norway and Kingdom of Sweden, the construction of the Norwegian barracks in Taftalidze, and the coordination of the assistance provided by the Norwegian Red Cross during the first days after the earthquake. Thorvald Stoltenberg has done a lot for Skopje and its citizens, but the greatest thing that he left behind him are the bridges of eternal friendship between Macedonia and Norway, built out of solidarity and humanity.
