Marking the Week of Hygiene (08 to 15 April 2021)
In compliance with the calendar of traditional activities, the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, is marking the Week of Hygiene, under the motto “Hygiene – personal obligation for collective health”, in the period of 08 – 15 April 2021.
Hygiene is a branch of health sciences that promotes the preservation of health, prevents infectious diseases and advocates for hygiene practice and hygiene behaviour of the individual.
The promotion of hygiene is a key part of the water and sanitation activities of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The aim is to raise public health awareness and prevent diseases associated with poor hygiene practices. The World Health Organization estimates that 1.7 million deaths a year are attributed to unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene.
Proper hand hygiene plays a key role and is essential in controlling and preventing the COVID-19 pandemic.
