Participation on International Regional Disaster Response Team (RDRT) Training
In the period from 02 – 10.12.2019, representatives of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia participated in an international training for Regional Disaster Response Teams (RDRT) in Istanbul, Turkey. The training was organized by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and The Turkish Red Crescent. The training was attended by 24 representatives of the following National Societies: Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, Red Cross of Armenia, Red Cross of Belarus, Bulgarian Red Cross, Red Cross of Georgia, Hungarian Red Cross, Red Cross of Kyrgyzstan, Red Cross of Montenegro, Russian Red Cross, Tajikistan’s Red Crescent, Turkish Red Crescent, Uzbekistan’s Red Crescent and Kazakhstan’s Red Crescent.
The main goal of the training was to prepare future regional human resources staff as Regional Disaster Response Team (RDRT) members to support National Societies in conducting disaster response operations by utilizing the tools and resources needed for assessment, planning and support. This training builds on previous CAP Methodology / RDRT curricula.
The sessions and training activities were delivered in an interactive way through the exchange of experiences, group work and field and office simulation exercises. Topics / sessions covered during the training were as follows: Tools and processes of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in case of disasters, Internal and external coordination, Needs assessment, Technical areas (water and sanitation, logistics, health), Preparation of Action Plan for International Humanitarian Aid, more specifically DREF or Emergency Appeal in case of disasters as well as preparation and implementation of office and field simulation knowledge assessment exercise.
Upon successful completion of the training, participants from the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia received certificates for successful completion of the training. All trainees have been entered into the international database of experts who will represent the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement and National Societies in international operations in the event of disasters.
