Assistance for the affected population from the floods in the Republic of Macedonia
The intensive rain fall and the increased levels of water in the rivers in the country caused flooding of the populated area and agricultural fields in several regions in the country. The floods cause material damage which has immediate consequences on the population. The responsible institutions in the country undertook appropriate measures for alleviation of the consequences caused by the floods. Macedonian Red Cross in frames of its available capacities immediately took part in the activities alleviation of the consequences caused by the floods, in form of distribution of emergency supplies for the affected population. The assistance was comprised of food items, hygiene material, blankets, mattresses and bottled potable water.
Now Macedonian Red Cross is in process of undertaking detailed assessment of the situation in order to provide the most urgent needs for the affected population. At this moment there is immediate need for provision of potable water for the population in Strumica, Ceshinovo-Obleshevo, Shtip, as well as in other regions where the water is not healthy for consumption due to the floods in these affected regions. On basis of the current assessment there is need for potable water and hygiene material (disinfectants). The public will be timely informed about the implementation and the results of the campaign.
