Lecture for dissemination of the Movement, International Humanitarian Law and activities of the Macedonian Red Cross in the barracks * Jane Sandanski * -Shtip

On September 18, 2017 in the barracks * Jane Sandanski * in Stip, a representative of the Macedonian Red Cross held lectures with a presentation on the dissemination of the Movement, International Humanitarian Law and activities of the Macedonian Red Cross on preparedness and action in case of disasters. A target group of listeners were uniformed persons with ranks, that followed the lectures with interest and expressed satisfaction with the cooperation.

In the part of the dissemination, the participants were introduced to the role and mandate of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, ICRC, IFRC and the Macedonian Red Cross, the Red Cross and International Humanitarian Law with an overview of the Geneva Conventions and the Additional Protocols and Activities of the Macedonian Red Cross.

For the activities of the disaster preparedness and action plan, special attention iwas given to the positioning and functioning of this system in the Macedonian Red Cross in domestic and international frames, the cooperation with the competent institutions in the Republic of Macedonia, in particular the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the CMC, , Local self-government and the involvement of representatives of the Macedonian Red Cross in the coordination bodies established during natural disasters and crisis and the activity of the Macedonian Red Cross teams. The latest developments with the floods that affected last year in parts of the Republic of Macedonia, the migrant and refugee crisis emphasize the joint cooperation with the competent institutions and the activities that the Macedonian Red Cross undertakes within its role – distribution of humanitarian aid, providing first aid, logistical support, field assessment, family relationships and educational activities.

Questions were raised on the issues related to the Geneva Conventions and Supplementary Agreements signed by the Republic of Macedonia in 1993, as well as questions about the tasks and role of the Macedonian Red Cross during the migration crisis.

For the needs of the library fund in the barracks, promotional and educational documents related to the presented activities were divided.

The lecture was a result of previously agreed terms with the General Staff of the ARM, and it is within the Memorandum of Cooperation concluded between the Macedonian Red Cross and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Macedonia.
